I’m a big advocate of variety being the spice of life but sometimes cultural differences can make life difficult. Much of what’s to be expected cannot be seen or anticipated in the honeymoon phase in a relationship.

I know a number of close friends of mine that met their foreign partners (while they were travelling) and they now face many challenges. The female’s natural draw is to live close to their family, and if the male wants to be close to their family, this can cause a huge issue, especially if they come from different sides of the world.

Compromises have to be made and sometimes this is bigger than each partner is comfortable with and can cause friction and discomfort.

Cultural differences must also be considered. At first these differences may appear to be entertaining but may soon wear off when the ‘honeymoon’ period cools off. Language challenges, friends, family, socializing, interests, history must be considered. However, if your love is so strong you will overcome all of these challenges.
